  • January:  Monty will  in charge of the pre-meeting critiquing session for January. Contest #29 The Missouri State Poetry Society Award. The subject is Games. Any Form. 40 line limit.

  • February:  #36. Poetry Society of Tennessee: Any humorous theme, a narrative poem,40 lines.

  • March:  #48. Miriam Strauss Memorial Award: An acrostic poem. The first letter of each line is capitalized and together the first letters spell vertically a word or phrase that relates to the chosen subject of the poem, 20-30 lines.

The challenge critiquing sessions will begin at 1:20 so we can be finished in time to start the regular meeting promptly at 2:00.  A participant should bring at least 10 copies of his/her poem.  Please observe line limits carefully.

A drawing will be held among participants at the March meeting and money prizes given. The number of chances you have at the drawing will depend on how many times you participate in a challenge. It's possible to accumulate as many as six chances. Each critiquing topic comes from a specific contest in the NFSPS contest brochure, so every poem you write for the challenges will be a poem you have ready to submit to NFSPS in March.  The topics listed above were chosen as our challenges because they are new; they were not in last year's brochure.
